The Imagine Cup 2010 theme is: "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems." When considering your project, get inspired and educated by reviewing the 2010 Theme and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

WHO
: You and up to 3 friends, for a maximum of 4 team members. Having a mentor guide your team in the development of an ground-breaking software project is a good idea.
 
PRIZES: Finalist teams will receive a trip to Warsaw, Poland to compete in the Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals in July, 2010, where the following prizes will be awarded to the top three teams:
  • First Place: $25,000 USD
  • Second Place: $10,000 USD
  • Third Place: $5,000 USD

SOFTWARE DESIGN STEP BY STEP GUIDELINES

 
STEP 1: READ THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THIS COMPETITION FIRST!
 
The content and technical requirements for Round 2 have been updated and include the removal of the Qualifying Round for the Worldwide Finals; the addition of a video presentation required of all teams from the Local Country/Region Competitions; the removal of the SMS Server Toolkit from the Required Elements. Please read the revised Software Design competition rules and regulations for full details. Updated: 11/11/2009.
 
STEP 2: SIGN-UP FOR THE SOFTWARE DESIGN COMPETITION
 
Find and select your country/region from the list, sign-up, create your team and start competing today. It's that easy!
 
All Software Design teams are required to follow the official Software Design Rules and Regulations and must submit their entries based on the guidelines below.
 
STEP 3: FOLLOW THE SOFTWARE DESIGN ENTRY GUIDELINES
 
To be eligible, your entry/entry materials must meet the following content and technical requirements:
  • Entries must address a social cause connected to the 2010 Theme: "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems".
  • Any presentation or documentation that is a part of your entry must be in the English language. If a translator is needed, you are responsible to procure and to make usage of one.
  • Either an implementation or the consumption of a XML Web Service.
  • The application must run on the Microsoft .NET Framework. You may use any version of .Net.
  • The application must be developed using at least one (1) of the products within the Visual Studio family (Express, Standard, Professional, or Team System) for development.
  • The software application must be fully functional and implemented (i.e., visions for a software application or software applications that are not fully developed are not eligible).

Your team’s entry must include or use features of at least one (1) of the optional elements:

STEP 4:  CREATE A VIDEO PRESENTATION FOR YOUR SOFTWARE APPLICATION
 
In addition to the list of materials your team may be required to submit during your local country/region competition, every Software Design team must include a 15 minute video presentation that introduces and demonstrates their software application and encompasses all of the above required elements, and at least one (1) optional element. The video should include a narrated PowerPoint presentation as a screen cast.
 
Unless your team was provided a different deadline during for the Software Design competition in your country/region, video entries must be successfully uploaded no later than May 5, 2010 at 11:59 P.M. GMT. We recommend that you begin the upload process at least 24 hours in advance of the deadline in the event you encounter any technical difficulties.
 
WORLDWIDE FINALS
 
All teams selected to advance to the Worldwide Finals are required to submit the following materials:
  • All entry materials provided at during the local country/region phase plus
  • Up to three (3) different 20 minute live presentations and 15 minute Q & A of the software application.
