The Imagine Cup 2010 theme is: "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems." When considering your project, get inspired and educated by reviewing the 2010 Theme and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
 
WHO: You and up to 2 friends, for a maximum of 3 team members. In addition, you can have a mentor guide your team in the development process.  It is not mandatory, but it is a good idea.
 
LOCAL COMPETITIONS: Some countries/regions are hosting a local semi-finals event. If your team is from one of the following countries, connect to their local website or local representative for more information: China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, United Kingdom or United States. Your competition dates and process may vary.  
 
PRIZES: Each Team that advances to Round 2 will receive an eBox-3310A-MSJK embedded platform device, ARV $450 USD. All finalists will receive a trip to Warsaw, Poland to compete in the Worldwide Finals in July 2010. Trip includes round trip coach airfare from major airport closest to winner’s home, standard hotel accommodations and select meals. After the Worldwide Finals Embedded Development competition, the following prizes will be awarded:
  • First Place: $25,000 USD and additional prizes
  • Second Place: $10,000 USD
  • Third Place: $5,000 USD

    Embedded Development Step By Step Guidelines

     
    STEP 1: READ ALL THE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THIS COMPETITION FIRST! 

    The Round 2 competition end date has been revised. Round 2 now closes on May 5, 2010. Please review the updated Embedded Development competition Rules and Regulations. Updated: 11/18/2009.
     

    STEP 2: FIND OUT IF YOUR COUNTRY/REGION IS HOSTING A LOCA SEMI-FINALS
     
    Some countries/regions are hosting a local semi-finals event. If your team is from one of the following countries, connect to their local website or local representative for more information: China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, United Kingdom or United States. Your competition dates and process may vary. 
      

    STEP 3: ROUND 1 - WHAT PROBLEM ARE YOU TRYING TO SOLVE?


    During Round 1, your Team must create and submit the materials described below:

    A report, 5 pages maximum, submitted as an electronic file in one of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .pdf or .txt, which incorporates the following information:

    • Project Vision:
      1. What problem are you trying to solve?
      2. What is your proposed solution to the problem?
      3. Why would the solution be best implemented as an embedded solution?
      4. Proposed Project Hardware Architecture
      5. Proposed Project Software Architecture and Functionalities

    STEP 4: ROUND 2 - HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SOLVE IT?

     
    Your team, if invited to advance to Round 2, will receive an eBox-3310A-MSJK embedded platform device that your team must use to build your Embedded Solution on. During Round 2, your Team must create and submit the following materials:

    1. A Report, 15 pages maximum, submitted as an electronic file in one (1) of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .pdf or .txt. It must include the following:

    • An Executive Summary, not to exceed 1 of the 15 pages
    • A Situational Analysis consisting of:
      • Problem Analysis
      • Project Analysis
      • User Experience
      • Market Analysis
      • Cost Analysis
    • Technical Architecture
    • Overall Embedded System Architecture
    • Hardware Components
    • Data Flow
    • Data Processing
    • Testing Procedures
    • Performance Analysis
    • Project Status

    2. An Embedded Solution, based on the entry materials submitted in Round 1 (Your team must build your embedded solution using the eBox-3310A-MSJK embedded platform device provided to you and Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2.) :

    • Submitted in the form of a Video Presentation (5 minutes maximum).
    • The Video Presentation must be submitted as an electronic file less than 50MB in sizeand in one of the following formats: mpg, .avi or .mpeg.
    • Your team must configure, build, debug, and deploy a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 operating system image.
    • And build an application on top of the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 operating system image that you configure, build, debug and deploy.
    If you build an application on top of a pre-existing windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 operating system image, you will be disqualified.

    WHAT IS AN ELIGIBLE EMBEDDED DEVELOPMENT ENTRY?

    Your team must build the Embedded Solution using the hardware tools and software tools described below:

    • Hardware Tools  
      • We will provide each Team that advances to Round 2 with an eBox-3310A-MSJK embedded platform device.
    • Software Tools
      • Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2
      • Windows Embedded CE Platform Builder
      • Windows Embedded CE IDE
    • Your entry must address the 2010 Theme: “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems.”
    • Any presentation, documentation, or supporting materials that are a part of your entry must be presented or submitted in the English language. If a translator is needed, it is the team's responsibility to provide one.
     
    STEP 5: ROUND 3 - PRESENTING AT THE WORLDWIDE FINALS IN POLAND
     
    At the Worldwide Finals, your Team, if you are invited to compete, must create and submit the materials described below:
    • An Embedded Solution, based on your entry materials submitted in Round 1 and Round 2
    • A presentation and product demonstration of up to twenty (20) minutes to a panel of judges. 
    • Participate in a Q & A session with the judges.
