Ecologger allows users to enter information and media regarding environmental hazards associated with geographical data, and provides a powerful search and correlation mechanism to help them find solutions to similar problems successfully applied by other members of the community in different regions. At the same time, users are able to propose new or alternative solutions to such problems. Additionally, governments and NGOs can use Ecologger to register actions being taken regarding these issues, allowing one to find out what is going on in his areas of interest and contribute actively. Universities and independent research groups can use the solution to register environmental researches in progress, thus being able to both inform and engage the local community into their efforts.
The solution keeps track of the whole environmental solutions’ lifecycle, from problem identification and damage measurements to solution finding and action coordination. Historical environmental data of a region (including problems and respective solutions, temperature, pollution levels and many other distinct variables), is shown in an interactive timeline graphic. That data is consolidated and exhibited in an intuitive and simple-to-use interface, which allows the community to systematically evaluate actions’ efficiency and learn from previous experiences. Furthermore, by using the advanced communication capabilities of Ecologger, based on the Windows Live Platform, one can get in touch with other members and receive real-time updates related to changes in occurrences registered in the system.
All things considered, the solution proposes an innovative way to enable the integration of individuals, companies, universities, NGOs and governments to identify and solve the environmental issues that affect the world we all live in. Ecologger aims to take part in users’ daily lives, enhancing their environmental consciousness and stimulating them to play an active role as change agents, while enabling individuals and decision makers to effectively plan their actions.
