Round Entry
Report1_Intellectronics.docx

World is facing the challenge of delivering quality healthcare to all the people, at affordable cost. The increasing demand for best quality healthcare, the costs of managing chronic diseases and the need for prolonged medical care for the ageing society are major factors behind this challenge.

Rapid advances in information and telecommunication technologies, and more specifically wireless and mobile communications, and their convergence are leading to the development of a new type of mobile health monitoring systems.

Despite of medicine development and rising quality of medical personnel there is still lack of adequate quality medicine observed in some regions and specific situations such as catastrophes and other disasters. Each year millions of children die because of inappropriate vaccination and lack of medical survey. Number of man-caused and natural disasters grows steadily, bringing many human victims with it. High quality highly tailored medical personnel is usually concentrated in big cities because of urbanization, so there is no enough quantity of professional doctors in rural and distant regions.

We would like to propose Mobile e-Health System that allow to make good use of the newest technologies for health monitoring and sickness prediction, obtain reliable vital parameters and patient location, save that data to the patient’s permanent data record in database of medical center, and receive remote medical consultation. The universality of given system allows to monitor several patients in real-time using e-Health modules connected with eBox (server of our wireless system) simultaneously.

Question: Title of Project:
Answer: MOBILE e-HEALTH SYSTEM

Question: Project Overview:
Answer: We would like to propose Mobile e-Health System that allow to make good use of the newest technologies for health monitoring and sickness prediction, obtain reliable vital parameters and patient location, save that data to the patient’s permanent data record in database of medical center, and receive remote medical consultation. The universality of given system allows to monitor several patients in real-time using e-Health modules connected with eBox (server of our wireless system) simultaneously.

Answer: Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 , Multichannel VoIP technologies , Speech API , Wave API , DirectShow Video capturing , CEDB database , ICOP eBox4300 computing device , Stollmann Bluetooth modules suited for medical applications , USB web cam , Wi-Fi or 3G module for internet connections , GPS , Internet , ATMEL ARM7TDMI ARM Thumb Processor , MLX90614 family Dual Zone Infra Red Thermometer suited for medical applications , Infra Red sensors for blood analyzing , Series of medical sensors , Blocks of analog preprocessing of raw medical information , Embedded printers , Analog Devices chips , ASP.NET , Silverlight , MS SQL , MS Visual Studio 2005 with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 platform builder

Question: Inspiration: What inspired your team to enter the Microsoft Imagine Cup and why did you choose the Embedded Development competition?
Answer: The Imagine Cup is the world's premier technologi competition. As a platform for young techologists to showcase their ideas and solutions to a world stage, it is without peer. we choose the Embedded Development invitational as the best opportunity for those who would like to reconcile their passion for electronics and software.

Question: Team History: How did your team meet?
Answer: Our team consist of two students, two postgraduate students and mentor. We are young, energetic, active people who are eager to explore new technology. We are from the Kharkiv National University of RadioElectronics. Our interests focus obviously on technology:computer science and electronics. We decided coming together for forming a team to trail blaze our ideas.

Question: Team Experience: What experience did your team have with Embedded Development before competing in the Imagine Cup?
Answer: Our team members had expireince with embedded design in device development projects. Two of as were from the previous top 6 team selected for the final Imagine CUP 2008 Embedded Development. Makovetskyi Sergii has an extensive expirience of building, debugging OS images, developing applications for Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and deploying them to ICOP eBox4300 and eBox2300, designing new hardware based on ARM and others firmware microcontrollers for commercial usage. Dudka Oleksandra has an expirience in web technologies (.NET,Framework, XML and other). Thus, our team is a right blend to handle the hardware and software aspects of the system.

Question: Highlights: What has been the best part of the Imagine Cup competition to date?
Answer: The best moment from starting competition to date was when we had seen project prototype in work.

Question: Inspiration: How did your team come up with your submission? Include which Millennium Development Goal inspired your solution.
Answer: Using proposed Mobile e-Health System we can achieve three main goals: 1. decrease victims’ number during disaster consequences liquidation (medicine of disasters); 2. people health monitoring, living in rural or distant regions (Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases), children vaccination precautions (Goal 4.Reduce child mortality), monitoring of postoperative people or people with chronic sicknesses.

Question: Challenges: What personal or technological challenges did your team face while developing your submission?
Answer: During one mounth we has been trying to run web cam on Windows Embedded CE. We could not find UVC Web cam supporting exist drivers. Only cam licensed by Microsoft became solution of our problem! :)

Question: Future Plans: What does your team plan on doing after the Worldwide Finals in Cairo, Egypt? Do you plan to use your project to launch a new business?
Answer: We hope the Imagine Cup will serve as a springboard for us to comercialize our ideas and solution. So while most of us plan to further our education after the competition, we hope to be able doing so while concomitantly developing our idea further and attracting interest from commercial companies and investors. We plan to improve the current working prototype and make it commercial product.
