DefileOfEden.zip

A multi-player only game, playable over the network (bots coming soon!), where two teams fight to change the environment to their respective style. One team represents bad where they try to change the landscape to a dark polluted style and the other team represents good, they must attempt to keep the land in a healthy state.

Each team has different playable classes (such as Oil Barren and Organic Farmer) relevant to their teams role, each with their own unique weapons or characteristics.

In later versions, specific goals will need to be achieved by each of the teams such as cleaning up oil spills, cutting down or planting trees.

A large goal of this game is to allow users to have fun whilst learning about the ways that they can improve the environment and as such relevant tips will be displayed.

A multi-player only game (bots coming soon!). Two teams compete against each other in order to change the environment to their respective style. One team represents the people who do not care about the environment, they try to change the landscape to an ugly polluted style, this occurs slowly over time as they start to win. They do this by 'Defiling' the land by means of destroying the Defenders trees, the Defenders themselves and keeping their oil refineries healthy. The Defenders represents the people who do care about the environment and must attempt to keep the land pure by protecting the earth from the Defilers. This is achieved by destroying them, their oil refineries and healing their trees.

Each team has different playable classes relevant to their team's role, each with their own unique weapons or characteristics.

A large goal of this game is to allow users to have fun whilst learning about the ways that they can improve the environment, relevant environmental tips are displayed for each game, the game also allows people to see what their actions cause as a result of caring for or neglecting the planet.

Question: Inspiration: What inspired your team to enter the Microsoft Imagine Cup and why did you choose the Game Development competition?
Answer: We were inspired by the problems of today's society and what we could do to achieve change with the right tools and knowledge. We found it drives us to try to accomplish solving these "tough" problems. We chose game development as it allows us to tackle the worlds toughest problems whilst still providing an element of fun to aid learning. Developing a game also allows us to demonstrate our skills and abilities.

Question: Team History: How did your team meet?
Answer: Bournemouth University Unix Group v2. We found we all had a passion for programming.

Question: Team Experience: What experience did your team have with Game Development before competing in the Imagine Cup?

Question: Highlights: What has been the best part of the Imagine Cup competition to date?
Answer: Getting 54 beta testers logged in and testing the multiplayer game.

Question: Inspiration: How did your team come up with your submission? Include which Millennium Development Goal inspired your solution.
Answer: Changing environments including cool weather effects to demonstrate what can happen to the planet when balance is not kept.

Question: Challenges: What personal or technological challenges did your team face while developing your submission?
Answer: Time management skills involving prioritising time to study for exams whilst still achieving development milestones.

Question: Future Plans: What does your team plan on doing after the Worldwide Finals in Cairo, Egypt? Do you plan to use your project to launch a new business?
Answer: We are confident that the skills obtained from this project will benefit us in the long term when we form a business (in which we are very interested).
