Stand out for a cause.

Your entry has to be compelling. It has to be stimulating. And, of course, it must be relevant to the Imagine Cup 2011 theme, which is inspired by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Of course, it’s not a requirement to address one of these specific goals, but you may want to use them as a guide. So if you’re ready, get your viral video noticed and collecting votes. Good luck. We’ll be watching!

Zero to Round 1 in five easy steps.

FIRST AND FOREMOST, YOU'LL NEED TO REGISTER

First things first. You need to register for the competition. How, you ask? It's simple. Just click the link at the top of the page that says "Register". It'll take you to another page where you'll be prompted to enter stuff like your name, email address, preferred language, country/region and pick a password. And that's it! Now you're ready to choose your competition.

CHOOSE TO COMPETE IN THE DIGITAL MEDIA COMPETITION

So, you've decided to show off your Digital Media skills? Great! First you need to choose to compete in the Digital Media competition. Just sign in to the website with the account you've created and above, where you see the countdown clock, click the big blue button that says "COMPETE". Once you do this, you'll need to fill in some additional profile information if you haven't already, and finally, create a team.

GRAB YOUR MOST CREATIVE FRIENDS

Now, it's time to form a team, including you and one other student. You might want to get a mentor to guide your team along the way too. Once that is all set, go ahead and make it official:

  • Sign into the website using your e-mail address and password
  • On your profile page, under "My Competitions" (right side of the page), click the competition you want to invite another student to—in this case, Digital Media
  • On the Digital Media competition page, look on the right side of the page for the "Edit Team" link under the heading of Digital Media and click it
  • On the "Team Members" section of your team page, click the "Invite" button to begin searching for another student to join your team

Make sure to check out the official Digital Media rules too if you haven't already, it contains all the official details to make sure you are covered.

ASK YOURSELF, "WHAT'S THE NEXT BIG IDEA?"

You've registered. You've picked your competition. You've formed your team. Now it's time to create your entry. Start by reading the Millennium Development Goals and the Imagine Cup 2011 theme. Then collaborate on how you can create an exciting and compelling video that illustrates how your team might solve some of the world's toughest problems.

SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY FOR ROUND 1

Aside from being creative, imaginative, and absolutely world-changing, your entry must be:

  • The video must include the Imagine Cup intro and outro clips, which can be found on the Imagine Cup Digital Media resources page.
  • The minimum length of the video should be at least thirty (30) seconds but should not exceed one (1) minute. Videos that do not meet the minimum or maximum time requirements will be disqualified.
  • Name your video file using the following format: "Team [insert team name] from [insert Country/Region].
