    Message to The Finalists

    Hello IC 2009 Robotics Finalists,

I have received some questions on my personal e-mail, and in the name of fairness I am posting here the questions and their respective answers. Besides that I also want to give you a few more insights on the competition, what to expect in Cairo, and all the additional steps we are taking in order to make the competition fun and absolutely fair.

    Let's start with the questions:

     1. According to the Flight schedules available I have a small concern regarding attending the Competitor briefing on the 3rd. (It is scheduled to be 1800 hours on Cairo time when we reach the Cairo airport) So basically please excuse me on competitor briefing.

If you are arriving after the competitors' briefing, I want you to change your flight ticket to arrive one day before. You will also need to reach the registration staff sending an e-mail to ImagineCup2009@microsoft.crgevents.com. Provide your name, competition, and explanation of the case. We must have all the competitors at the time of the briefing. If eventualy, you would not be able to participate on the Briefings, I will be available for everybody for clarifications so we can address your case.

     2. I would be grateful if it is possible to find the details about the robot platform (Physical) we would receive at the finals.

Part of the competition is the surprise element. We are not telling this information in advance, once we want you all receivce that information simultaneously.

    3. (I have mentioned following details on a previous mail but since I did not received any details I'm re iterating it here as well.) We would be thankful if it is possible for us to own the robot we receive for the competition after the end of the competition. So we would be grateful if you can take necessary steps if this is possible.

I liked this idea. Unfortunately, the Robots are not the ones we buy in a store. They were built specially for a sumo-fight challenge.

     4. There is an issue with the www.robochamps.com site. Is it has been removed? I would be really appreciate if it can be maintained for the educational purposes. (Specially the forum section)

It will be back, with its URL pointing out to another server.

I look forward to seeing you in Cairo,

    Have a great Flight!

Hello Rogerio, Thanks you very much for spending your valuable time for answering. 1. I have contacted my Local Microsoft Representative regarding this matter and have mentioned your opinion on the case. If it happened to be completely impossible to change the flight booking at this time and had to come late, as the last resort I'll meet you first thing the 3rd once reached and collect the any informations delivered on the competitor briefings. 3. If the hardware configuration of the robots can be used for any other purpose (with or without modifying or reconfiguration) I would yet like to receive the robots if it is OK with you. Yes I do understand that if the robots are custom built and hardware reconfiguration is not possible to use for any other purpose than Sumo it's pretty much useless since we would receive only one guy. :-/ (I hope it wasn't the case that since it's custom built and probably proprietary so we are not allowed to own due to legal reasons?) See you in Cairo, Aravinda D.P.

    Re: Message to The Finalists

Unfortunately I am arriving in Cairo at 20:40 local time on the 3rd, so I don't think I will be able to attend the competitor briefing either. I have other travel plans immediately before the contest which prevent me from arriving earlier. I hope this doesn't cause any problems. If there are several finalists who can't make it to the competitor briefing, is it an option to delay it until the 4th?
