    Re: Question...

I'm new here, in this competition and I want to ask something. We have to do one photo story for the qualifying round and another one for the second round...two distinct works?...or it can be the same photo essay?

    Thanks!

    Re: Question...

     I have a question:

    • Are we allowed to use editing programs like Adobe Photoshop (R)  in this year's competition?

Because I remember that for the past years it was not allowed.

It is allowed and it was allowed in the past, too ... but is permitted to do just basic corrections, like changing colors, tones, sharpness, lighting, brightness, contrast.

Oh, ok, but you can't edit them there. I mean, like make advance editing changes like combining two or three pictures in one using Photoshop.

    Re: Question...

    Hi everyone

We really want to tell stories thru photographies, and we want you spending more time shooting than editing. Basic editing is allowed, black and white is fine, you can dodge and burn, but not too much, cropping is ok to make the picture better, stiched panoramas are fine but if you took those pictures in the same week, HDR are ok, same rules as stiched panoramas.

Think about your essay, research, and take pictures..

    Re: Question...

Dodge and burn tolls, stiched panoramas and HDR aren't allowed. At least they weren't allowed in past two years...

Combining more than one picture in one wasn't allowed, only effects that icd101 mentioned (changing hue, saturation, levels, exposure, brightness, contrast, tone curve, split toning, vignettes, temp, tint, fill lights, blacks...)

    Re: Question...

hmm, but if levels and vignettes are allowed, then i don't know why burning and dodging shouldn't be ok?

burning or dodging is completely the same as partial use of levels changes on a masked layer, just a faster way to do it :D

but ok, to all of those confused by what's allowed and what not, i'd say the easiest explanation is that you can use those minor changes to enhance the quality of your work, but just not go overboard with it to make a completely different photo because that's what it all comes down to... at least from my experience with IC :)
