    Clarification of mobile device..

Morning all (well at least here in NZ and no we aren't part of aussie so I will post in here :P)

When I originally looked at the requirements for the Imagine cup and saw the use of a "Mobile device" and instantly thought of to use my tablet as I think of that as an example of an awesome mobile device, so I decided to incorporate that. Then 2 days ago when I was meeting with a possible team mate he wasn't quite sure if using a tablet would be enough to satisfy the requirements as he and others see it more as mobile phones rather than larger devices.

I had a look around here and this thread (http://imaginecup.com/forums/t/7892.aspx#33319) could suggest to me that I am fine in seeing tablets as mobile devices.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

It's not a problem to use your tablet PC, it's a mobile device and I agree it s a good idea ^^

    You can go on!

Would any notebook also constitute as a mobile device by this definition? Reason being I don't have access to any devices that uses Windows Mobile and I'm not sure if my old cellphones would be able to run C# - at least there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it.

    Hi Tereno!

    Could you precise what kind of device is it? While it's not a basic laptop or PC it should be fine;

     Hi Vincent,

Ohh.. so I can't use a normal laptop? I have a Sony Ericsson W800i and a Motorola Razr but I am not sure how I would go about developing C# on them. I know the W800i, I can use Java on it. Any thoughts? Do you think it would be a good idea for me to purchase a used mobile device with Windows Mobile? Do I need Windows Mobile specifically to run C# code? I also have an iPods..not sure if that will help. Thanks!

    Hi Vincent!

I was wondering if there is any way of developing with C# on the symbian platform...or do I need to buy a windows mobile specific device? I was planning to buy a Nokia smartphone for the design challenge but I read somewhere that development with C# isn't possible. Is it true?

[Edit: I think I could be alright using any smartphone if I'm not actually fully developing for the phone I guess :)]

    Hey mate,

If you want to use a symbian OS it's not a problem, it can be a good opportunity to show the interoperability between both platforms!

Hi guys, just wanted to say something important :)

Don't forget that imagine cup, is one of the most popular event in the world ! (yes yes !).So think about sponsoring your project, in order to buy some Pocket PCs! Thanks to our sponsor last year we bought 2 HTC diamonds ! :)

(Or if you can't, sell your cellphone and buy even the cheapest smartphone running on Windows Mobile, believe me it's worth !)

Good luck to all of us :)
